Stock Challenge Results!
January 7th, 2007 Category:Home, Stock Challenge
Hello everyone!
We apologize for the lack of posting as of late, our personal lives have become very busy. Anyways, the AOL Stock Challenge has ended (7 weeks), and here are the results.
We started off with $100k, and we ended up with $103180 which is approximately a 3% return in 7 weeks with a rank of 137 out of 1239 contestants. Not too bad considering that we used technical analysis only. The winner had a whopping final portfolio value of $161000!
We must admit that we started to slack off near the end of the round and we should have sold off some losers before they turn the turn for the worse, like FCP and AVN.UN.
Our biggest winners were APOL, WAG, and NGX (already sold off).
Here was our final portfolio holdings:

I also have advantage energy and select comfort in my portfolio. Unfortunately advantage energy has dropped quite a fair amount in the last little while. I missed my chance to get rid of it before the end of 2006. I will probably look into dumping it later.
Select Comfort on the other hand is definitely a keeper in my opinion.
Select Comfort is actually one of Tom Gardner’s favorite picks in his hidden gems newsletter. I will be holding onto that one.
can you tell me more about the hidden gems newsletter? Is it worth subscribing to? How many years have you subscribed?
just curious about more information… thx!
Just wonder how to input “Annual EPS Growth (5-yr avg) > 3% ” cause there is only “Annual EPS Growth Rate” available in the MSN screener. I can’t find the “5-yr avg”.
also the option “5-Year Dividend Grwoth” is not availble in the MSN screener either.
